Having the knowledge of basic concepts and theories of sociology, their difference and inner relations within themselves, defining social phenomena and events, modelling and assesing by making analysis. Providing basic concepts and principles from different fields of social sciences and using this knowledge in societal analysis. Having the knowledge and understanding regarding theoretical discussions including the relationships between social structures, social actors and cultures. Understanding the structure and function of basic social institutions/sectors and defining the problems appearing in these fields. By learning Turkish schools of sociology, sociological accumulation in Turkey in historical periods, following and comparing both local and international accumalation, developments and studies. Having philosophy-psychology-logic formation necessary for teaching of philosophy group. Making sociological reasoning for social problems depending on sociological theories and methods and designing the phase of sociological research and its application. Using research methods and techniques as a sign of vocational qualification, making practise in the field, making sociological analysis and interpretation according to data. Having the necessary computer and statistical knowledge and skills for conducting a sociological research depending on both qualitative and quantitative methods. Understanding socio-cultural, socio-economic and socio-political interaction between communication, technology, media and society, and assessing and discussing their actual developments. Having the skill and responsibility for following macro and micro problems in global and local level. Understanding dynamics of social change, tension and interaction between the rural and the urban, social stratas shaped by market conditions and social mobility and discussing their actual reflections. Identifying institutions and meaning worlds inequally constructed by power relations depended on government and hegemony, and analysing these especially in terms of gender and women’s perspective, and developing a vision sensitive to women issues. By gaining the quality of critical thinking about his/her own qualifications and him/herself, acquiring life-time learning behaviour. Having, as a sociologist, professional ethical consciousness in both participating in social policies and social contexts, academic and field studies, and,with this knowledge and consciusness, revealing the skills of communication and use of inititatives.

The exams are evaluated over 100 letters and numerical numbers according to the system in force at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University. Weighted average of the average of mid-term exams 40%; The final exam is 60%. In order to be successful in any course, a weighted average of 60% is required.

Part students who want to enroll in the university's academic and to complete the process within the framework of statutory regulations set by the ÖSYM / exams must be managed. Students who have started a domestic or foreign equivalent program may apply for a transfer. Admission of students from the beginning of the semester, each student and studied in terms of the degree of considering his application and is considered special. Graduates of Sociology Department could be employed in public and private institutions: They could be employed as an expert, project manager and sociologist in human resources departments of private companies, media companies, research institutions, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Family and Social Policies and Ministry of Health. They could work as an expert, sociologist, civil servant and researcher in reform schools, prisons and orphanages.They could also pursue family consultation after getting required certifications or an academic career through post-graduate studies.
