Our department was established in 2007 within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University and started education by accepting undergraduate students for the first time in 2012. Prof. Dr. Ensar ÇETİN, Prof. Dr. Mehmet CANSIZ, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan YAVUZER, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çağdaş Ümit YAZGAN, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Faruk YILDIRIM, Assoc. Prof. Neval KARANFİL, Assoc. Prof. Hulusi YILMAZ, Assoc. Prof. Nihan OZANSOY TUNÇDEMİR, Res. Asst. Dr. Linda BARIŞ, Res. Asst. Dr. Mevlüt UĞURLU, and Res. Asst. Dr. Hakan BAKKAL are working in our department.

As the sociology department, our aim and expectation from our students is to be educated as sociologists who have gained a sociological perspective, who have combined sociological concepts and theories with social field applications, and who have the potential to conduct sociological research on the socio-cultural and economic structure of Turkey. An important advantage of our department is that it is a learning and research center for all our students and researchers from outside, due to its location in the Cappadocia region, known for its historical and cultural richness.

Our graduates can be employed as sociologists in public institutions, as well as conducting field and public opinion research in private research companies. Our graduates, who wish to do so, can be appointed as Philosophy group teachers in private and public schools after receiving their pedagogical formation certificates. Our department students can earn the right to double major and minor education in the Department of Psychology and the Department of Turkish Folklore.

The Sociology Department continues its education and research activities in a large area used as offices and classrooms in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences located in the Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University Central Campus. The Sociology Department provides educational services on the 1st floor of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The Sociology Department has 4 classrooms in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences that are suitable for use only by the Sociology Department. There are sufficient number of desks and tables in the classrooms. 4 classrooms in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences are used for education. Compulsory courses are conducted in two large classrooms. The elective courses of the department are conducted in two small classrooms. There is also a seminar hall at the end of the corridor where the offices of the academic staff are located in the department. There are 15 chairs and 6 tables in the seminar hall. There is 1 projector and a computer case in the seminar hall. Postgraduate courses and postgraduate thesis defense exams can be held in the seminar hall. In addition, elective courses preferred by a small number of students can be held in the seminar hall. When the classrooms are insufficient, suitable classrooms from other faculties can be used. In addition, there are two projectors and two computers suitable for internet use in two classrooms.

Computerized statistics programs can be used in the computer laboratory. In this context, the applied studies of the Applied Field Research II course are carried out in the computer laboratory located on the second floor of the faculty.

As a department, the Faculty's Prof. Dr. Zeynep Korkmaz Conference Hall can be used for community activities. In addition, there is a canteen in the faculty where students can spend their free time and meet their food and beverage needs. Students can become members of 57 student clubs and 12 student societies belonging to Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University and carry out social and cultural activities through these societies. One of these 12 societies is the Sociology Society, which Sociology Department students can become members of. The "Sociology Society" carries out two event series called "Sociology Career Days" and "Cinema and Society Talks". In addition, it is planned to hold conferences that can increase sociological knowledge.

Each of the 11 personnel in the department's academic staff has a single office. Each office includes a desk, chair, bookcase, internet connection and desktop computer set. Computers, internet connection and office supplies are among the services provided by the university.

• Can assess and evaluate the data making use of the advanced knowledge and skills that they have acquired in the field, to define and analyze the issues connected with current technological developments finding ways to offer solutions to those issues based on the researched and evidence.
• Can use the modern techniques and devices necessary for the current practices in the field of Sociology.
• Can collaborate both intra- and interdisciplinarily by planning and managing the activities regarding the development of the members subordinate to them.
• Are able to express themselves in verbal and written communication having the ability to work individually, take initiatives and make their own decisions.
• Can have the professional and ethical responsibility in the process of the collection, evaluation and implementation of the data in the field of study and publishing the results.
• Can observe the current national and international issues.
• Can make their knowledge regarding human health and environmental awareness available for the benefit of the society.
• Can know at least one foreign language at B1 level in the European Language Portfolio so that they can follow the developments in their field of study and exchange information or ideas with their colleagues abroad. 
• Can use the information and communication technology required by the field of Sociology with a competence at the level of European Computer Driving License.
• Can aware of the universal nature of social rights, justice, quality management, protection of cultural values and environment as well as occupational health and safety.

Defined Program Teaching Objectives
The Teaching Objectives of Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University Sociology Department are as follows:
ÖA-1. To enable students to benefit from the basic concepts of sociology in understanding and analyzing society.
ÖA-2. To enable students to use different sociological approaches and basic sociological theories based on different ontological and epistemological assumptions to understand and explain society.
ÖA-3. To provide the infrastructure to design, implement and interpret sociological research projects on social processes, institutions, interactions and problems using different social research methods.
ÖA-4. To provide the knowledge that will enable students to draw inferences from their studies using research methods and develop solution proposals.
ÖA-5. To provide the necessary information to act in accordance with scientific principles and ethical values ​​at all stages of their studies using research methods.
ÖA-6. To be able to act in accordance with teamwork in their studies, fulfill their responsibilities and develop problem-solving skills.
ÖA-7. To be able to take initiative and responsibility in individual studies, to develop the ability to solve the problems encountered.
ÖA-8. To develop the ability to identify social inequalities and problems with their causes and consequences and to offer solution suggestions.
ÖA-9. To provide the knowledge that allows the person to understand the dynamics of the society he/she deals with and to observe and analyze social changes.
ÖA-10. To stimulate the curiosity to follow national and international literature on sociology and to ensure that he/she can benefit from existing studies in understanding the society he/she deals with.
ÖA-11. To provide information about basic fields of sociology such as General Sociology; Institutions, Family, Economy, Politics, Education, Health, Religion, Law Sociology and basic institutions as well as applied sociology and methodology.
ÖA-12. To develop the ability to benefit from other social science fields (such as international relations, public administration, philosophy, psychology, history, literature, law, economics, political science) and to conduct multidisciplinary studies.
ÖA-13. To ensure that the student can follow technological developments at national and international levels and analyze their impact on society.
ÖA-14. To provide an environment suitable for the student to develop skills that will enable him/her to follow technological changes and benefit from them in studies related to his/her field.
ÖA-15. To ensure that he/she reaches the competence to use the equipment he/she has acquired during his/her education within the framework of future employment opportunities.
ÖA-16. To develop the skill to participate in scientific, cultural and artistic events held in his/her field and to undertake duties in the creation and preparation of similar events.
ÖA-17. To ensure that he/she has the competence to follow national and international sociological studies and academic activities by effectively using his/her mother tongue and at least one foreign language.

- (1) Exams may be of various types such as written, oral or both written and oral and/or applied. (2) Exams and all other measurement tools are scored out of 100 points. (3) Provided that they remain within the maximum course load limits, students may re-register for the courses they have passed in each term and take their exams without requiring attendance in order to increase their grades. In this case, the last grade received is considered valid. (4) Students who do not take any exams are considered to have used their right to take that exam and received zero points for that exam. Students' failure to do or participate in mid-term/year activities such as homework, seminars, projects, and practices subject to scoring are also evaluated in the same way. (5) Students who are penalized as a result of a disciplinary investigation opened for cheating, having others cheat, assisting others to cheat, or attempting to cheat during an exam or during the examination of exam documents are given zero points for that course exam. (6) If a student takes an exam that he/she does not deserve to take, the grade he/she receives is cancelled. (7) Students must take the exams at the time and place indicated in the exam program and must have their student ID cards and other documents requested by the relevant unit management. (8) Except for unannounced short-term exams, the exam days and times are announced by the unit at least five working days before the exams, in accordance with the academic calendar, with the decision of the relevant unit management board. After the exam dates are announced, they can only be changed with the decision of the relevant unit management board. Exams can be held on Saturdays and Sundays, except for religious and national holidays. Midterm exams are completed within the period other than the first and last three weeks of that semester/year. (9) Exams are held by the responsible faculty members and invigilators assigned by the relevant unit management. (10) The responsible faculty member delivers the exam documents and course attendance schedules to the relevant unit management within two working days after entering the exam grades into the student information system. Exam documents are kept for at least two years from the exam date. (11) The measurement results of all kinds of activities related to exams and scoring shall be announced by the relevant faculty member by entering them into the student information system within ten working days at the latest from the date of the exams and activities, except for the restrictions related to make-up exams specified in this article. (12) The procedures and principles determined by the Senate shall be applied to students who cannot take the exams due to a justified and valid reason accepted by the relevant unit management board. (13) All exams measuring proficiency, exemption, level determination or course achievements, upon the proposal of the relevant unit boards and the approval of the Senate, may be conducted simultaneously on paper or in an electronic environment, allowing each candidate to be asked different questions at different times from a question bank that is securely stored and classified according to field and difficulty level. The principles regarding the preparation of the questions to be asked in the exams, the creation and encryption of the question bank, the storage of the exam questions in paper or electronic environment and the provision of exam security shall be decided by the Senate in accordance with the principles determined by the Council of Higher Education.

The accreditation decision regarding the Sociology Undergraduate Program of Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University Faculty of Arts and Sciences, whose General Evaluations were made for the First Time by FEDEK in the 2023 evaluation period, is presented below.

On the other hand, foreign national students are placed in the universities across Turkey as per the scores they received on the central exam named YÖS (Foreign Student Exam) Documents required for registration: 1- Diplomas of High Schools and their equivalents 2- The Result of Student Placement Exam by ÖSYM
