Explain the development of sociology, its relations with other disciplines, sociological theories, methods, discussions and concepts. Recognize the value and norm system of social structure and be able to compare modern and pre-modern societies regarding their institutional structures and functions.Examine the relevant information aboout sociological research and techniques, scientific and systematic thinking, and be able to explain how to conduct a field study. Evaluate social issues by using relevant methods and techniques, conduct research, generate knowledge and data.Explain the development of philosophy and psychology as distinct disciplines, their relation to sociology and their core concepts, theories, methods, dicsussions. Make a statistical analysis for sociological research, use related computer programs and information technology. Explain social, cultural, economic and political problems with a critical approach. Develop skills to gain scientific information, documents and findings; and develop skills to reach local and global sociological information.Explain how new social theories contribute to the field, build up the connections between social facts-cases and sociological theory and analyze them. Evaluate and synthesize humanities data by adopting a multidisciplinary perspective and carry out team work.Use the ability to have information systematically through professional life, adapt oneself to new developments in the field by applying life-long learning principle.Develop sensitivity to social problems, generate projects about them and provide solutions. Explain social components like symbols, rituals, practices and contemporary phenomena like globalisation.Be aware of professional responsibilities when focusing on social research, carry out research without violating anyones rights.Value ontological values and universal human rights.

During the academic semester, students are given at least one midterm and a final exam for each module. The instructor might decide to accept assignments, papers and projects as midterm exam. The final exam should not occupy less than 40% and more than 60% of the evaluation of the course. Evaluation system of each course is announced in the course plan. Students who successfully pass all departmental courses (240 ECTS), whose GPA is above or equal 2.00 have a right to get a bachelors degree diploma.

High School Exit Examination ratified by Higher Education Council, high school diploma (candidates from abroad need to apply to relevant higher education institutions directly. These candidates should be studying in or graduated from high schools that are equavalent to a Turkish high school. Candidates from abroad should submit official high school exit examination results (from institutions that are approved by the Higher Education Council, like Abbitur, International Baccauleate, GCE, Tawjihi, etc.) or exam results equivalent to the university entrance examination (SAT etc.) to the university.

Sociology graduates have a variety of employment opportunities regarding their area of specialization. They can be employed in the relevant state institutions (Turkish Statistical Institute, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Family and Social Policies, Ministry of Work and Social Security, Ministry of Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas, Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Ministry of Education, General Directorate of Migration, and so forth) as a sociologist. They can work in the research companies and non governmental organizations as social researchers. Moreover, they can work in the press and advertising sectors. Last but not least, our graduates may take a masters degree, complete doctoral studeies and pursue an academic career.

Qualification is continuous
