After spending over forty years in the field of education, next to Arı Primary School and Arı High School, an investment in higher education and research as well became inevitable. This endeavour was realized through the collaboration and genuine contribution of all the teaching and administrative staff as well as the thousands of young people who have attended these schools and also their parents. In fact, this was the source of the motivation that led to the establishment of Çankaya University, the last link in our educational project.

On 9 July 1997, Sıtkı Alp Education Foundation was ratified through the Turkish National Assembly decree number 4282 which was published in the Official News Paper number 23050, dated 15 July 1997. The official establishment of Çankaya University was finalised through the Higher Education Council decision number 16641, dated 27 August 1997, and the university commenced its functions in the autumn of the same year.

In an age of competition when civilisation and technology have reached their zenith, borders between nations have diminished and now are almost invisible. Each nation is trying to be a centre of excellence. Education, reliable and efficient education, is undoubtedly the basis for such excellence. With this goal in mind, a community of educators trained at academic institutions of high reputation all over the world have been set up. This goal is to train, the students of Çankaya University in the best way possible through well-developed curricula in various fields. This academic institution w ill also provide its graduates with a solidly founded future, where employment opportunities at large will be open. As the founders of the University, it is our sincere hope and desire to interact with all academic and administrative members as well as with the students as members of the same family, that is, Çankaya University. 1- Possess advanced level basic conceptual knowledge and consider its reflections on practice in the field of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

2- Have a basic knowledge about people and the working principles of inter-communal relations.

3- Analyze the conceptual knowledge related to the field and evaluate its reflections on practice.

4- Reach to the original knowledge sources in the field of social and behavioral sciences by using written and visual resources.

5- Obtain information by processing data with technological means and present this information as a report by using technological equipment (computer, etc.) that the field required.

6- By making contact with the sub-branches of the field and the other fields in the social sciences make interdisciplinary interpretations and have skills to do analyses and develop these skills.

7- Take responsibility both as a team member and individually in order to solve unexpected complex problems faced within the implementations in the field.

8- Evaluate the knowledge and skills acquired in the field with a critical approach.

9- Direct the education received to a higher education level in the same field or to an occupation in the same level.

10- Gain awareness of lifelong learning and questioning.

11- Inform people and institutions, transfer ideas and solution proposals to problems in written and orally on issues in the field.

12- Organize and implement project and activities for social environment with a sense of social responsibility.

13- Monitor the developments in the field and communicate with peers by using a foreign language at least at a level of European Language Portfolio B1 General Level.

14- Audit the data gathering, interpretation, implementation and announcement stages by taking into consideration the cultural, scientific, and ethical values.

15- Possess sufficient consciousness about the issues of universality of social rights, social justice, quality, cultural values and also, environmental protection, worker's health and security.

16- Have an open attitude towards change and innovation.

Profile of the Programme:

Education medium of Psychology Master's Program (with thesis) is English. Students who are not graduated from psychology department and accepted to the master's program need to take “Psychology Scientific Preparation” courses for 2 academic semesters, during which they will be able to take undergraduate courses up to 16 credits. Those to be taken are decided by the exam jury.

Students are required to take 3 must courses and complete them successfully during the first year of their study. Two of the abovementioned courses have 4 credits and one has 0 (zero) credits. In addition to that, students are also required to take 5 elective courses and complete them successfully. During the second year of their study, they are required to take “Master's Thesis” course, which has 0 (zero) credits, and complete their master's thesis.

Assessment and Grading:

Examinations and assessment methods applied in the courses are defined in the “Grading Policy” sections of the course definition forms. The relevant articles of “Çankaya University Associate Degree and Undergraduate Degree Academic Education Regulations” apply to the exams and academic scores of students.

Mode of Study:

Formal education.

Recognition of Prior Learning:

Applicants are required to have completed their undergraduate studies with a B.S. degree or an equivalent programme approved by relevant authorities and institutions successfully.

Access to Further Studies:

Students who have completed the master's program will be eligible for applying related phd programs.

The basic requirements of the Institute are:

1. Possession of a bachelor's degree;
2. Minimum 55 in the verbal or quantitative section of the Turkish national ALES exam or 610 from GRE;
3. Minimum 75 in the Turkish national English language exam (YDS), its international equivalent, or Çankaya University's English language proficiency exam.

The need for psychologists has increased enormously in both for private and public working area. Psychologists graduate with the knowledge of human relationship within different contexts. Therefore the working area of psychology is so broad, and there are lots of opportunities for employment after graduation from psychology department. Psychologists can work in preschools; centers for disabled people; or prisons. Hospitals, health and research centers are looking for qualified psychologists. In addition, those who are specialized in the area of perception (a branch of cognitive psychology) can work in the area of advertisement. Our graduates who are specialized in the area of industrial and organizational psychology would have job opportunities in the human resources and organizational development departments of the public and private organizations. These psychologists can also work as free-lance consultants in these specified areas. Psychology graduates who have master degree in women studies and/or clinical psychology can also work in women' shelters. Psychologists who have studied on traffic psychology could find work in psychotechnic centers. Psychologists with doctorate degree can practice in private clinics and in hospitals, they can work in psychiatry, gynecology clinics, and physiotherapy centers. Furthermore, psychology graduates who have a master and/or doctorate degree in audiology can also work as audiologists in otorhinolaryngology services. Finally, as soon as they have a doctorate degree in the appropriate area of psychology, our graduates can work in adult and child psychiatry departments of medical schools, and in public and private universities.
